Top 50 TV Series
Setting out to rank my favorite tv series seemed straight forward at first but it was anything but that. Our favorite stories change as we do. Our memories of shows that we saw years ago fade. I found that over the days of ranking these, it would change, depending on my mood. I found that the series I’ve seen more recently, I look more fondly upon (though I’m not sure why). I also decided that I would group the rankings into series, rather than their individual seasons. It was simply too hard to judge otherwise. My top ten series also have a lot of weight to them, as I’ve experienced them each multiple times, and keep coming back to them (I absolutely tend to revisit my favorites over and over again). So all that being said, these are pretty rough rankings and I reserve the right to change them at a moment’s notice (not that anyone was holding me to that anyways).
#1
West World

4 Seasons
It’s pretty difficult to pick an all time favorite. It changes over time as we ourselves grow and change. That being said, I can’t help but rank West World at the top. For whatever reason, the show just resonates with me. I love the premise. I love the themes that it explores. I love the actors and the music. I just love it. You can imagine my devestation when the series was cancelled, leaving us hanging without a true ending. Ouch HBO.
#2
Game of Thrones

8 Seasons
While I think the myself and the rest of the world was disappointed with how the show ended, it is still one of the greatest shows ever. Fantasy is my jam. It’s by far my most consumed genre. About 40% of everything I read, watch, or listen to is Fantasy. So it’s no surprise to find GoT up here at the top.
#3
Lost

6 Seasons
This is defintely a bit of a controversial one for me. Lost, in a lot of ways, didn’t hold up the longer it went on. It was notorious for introducting surpring elements and then never really explaining it. But Lost is special to me. It was the first real show that I was obssed with, and I still believe that the construction of each episode, with flashbacks focusing on one character, is one of the most brilliant ways to tell a story.
#4
The Expanse

6 Seasons
This show definitely won’t be as popular with some as it is with me. I am a huge sci-fi fan, and the Expanse is a great show. It lasted six seasons, but the books that it follows go on for a lot longer, so I was disappointed when it got cancelled.
#5
Doctor Who

So many
I haven’t watched all of Dr. Who yet, but it is an epic sci-fi show. From what I have seen, it had some truly amazing storylines that are hard to beat.
#6
Dark

3 Seasons
Dark is a complicated science fiction thriller that deals with a sinister time travel conspiracy that spans generations. I love shows that can be difficult to follow and require a lot of attention and thought, which Dark definitely requires. It may not be for everyone, but I loved it.
#7
Stranger Things

5 Seasons
Stranger Things is a mix of investigative drama and supernaural elements that are portrayed with a bit of horror. It’s set in 1980s Hawkins, Indiana. Excited to see how things turn out in the final season.
#8
True Detective

4 Seasons
True Detective is an anthology crime drama on HBO. The first and fourth seasons were particularly good. There are a few crime shows that I watch but True Detective is my favorite.
#9
Friends

10 Seasons
Friends is definitely a product of the time it was produced in, and isn’t a very diverse cast, but it’s a great sitcom. It’s beloved by many for a reason.
#10
Sense8

2 Seasons + Movie
This one was hard to rank highly because it was only two seasons long and was cancelled before it could come to a satisfying conclusion. The show is about eight individuals who are linked mentally and emotionally and can share skills and abilities. It’s really interesting and fun. Worth watching.
#11
House of the Dragon

2 Seasons
I love the Song of Ice and Fire universe, and House of the Dragon is really good. Admittedly, season 2 wasn’t nearly as good as season 1, but I’m definitely hopeful for the next couple of seasons.
#12
Dexter

8 Seasons
I really enjoyed Dexter, even though some of the seasons weren’t so great. The ending wasn’t anything to write home about either. But Seasons 1, 2, and 4 were incredible.
#13
Severence

2 Seasons
Severence is a science fiction pschological thriller starring Adam Scott. I found the whole concept of the show incredibly interesting, though it is, in my mind, absoultely dystopian.
#14
Shrinking

2 Seasons
Shrinking is a dramady starring Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, and Jessica Williams. I found it to be a really funny, insightful show.
#15
Brooklyn Nine-Nine

8 Seasons
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is ridiculously funny. It also has its moments of touching sentimentality, making it very sweet as well. Captain Holt is one of my favorite characters.
#16
Silo

2 Seasons
Silo, based off Hugh Howey’s Wool series, takes place in a huge silo underground that was built to protect people from the apocolyptic world outside (or so they say). The series was renewed for a third and fourth season, and I’m quite excited to see the rest of the series.
#17
Ted Lasso

3 Seasons
I just loved how postive and upbeat Ted Lasso was. It’s definitely one of the better feel-good shows out there.
#18
Breaking Bad

5 Seasons
I didn’t love the show as much as most people, but it’s undeniably well done. Bryan Cranston’s performance is particularly impressive.
#19
Battlestar Galactica

4 Seasons
It’s been a while since I’ve seen this, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit.
#20
Bridgerton

3 Seasons
Bridgerton is an alternative history romance show based off the Julia Quinn novels of the same name. I find them to be quite witty, funny, dramatic, and romantic. Excited to see Benedict’s story next.
#21
Shogun

1 Season
I am definitely a history buff, so this show taps into that interest. I thought the first seasons was fantastic, and I could see this becoming one of my all time favorites, but I’m still skeptical about how the series is going to continue. Time will tell.
#22
Survivor

48 Seasons
Survivor has been a huge source of entertainment for me. While I haven’t watched these last few years, I’ll probably pick it back up again at some point.
#23
Downton Abbey

6 Seasons
Another historical drama makes the list. I very much enjoyed this classic upstairs-downstairs drama.
#24
Seinfeld

9 Seasons
I watched this growing up and it’s special to me for that reason. I love Larry David and some of the story lines in Seinfeld are just hysterical.
#25
The Wheel of Time

3 Seasons
This is my actively willing for Wheel of Time to continue and get better. We’ll see.
